HIV AIDS Activity in Collaboration with TWEET Foundation

Description:  In partnership with the TWEET Foundation, this initiative aims to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, promote prevention strategies, and provide support for affected individuals. The activity includes educational sessions, community outreach, and resource distribution to enhance understanding and reduce stigma around HIV/AIDS. Together, we strive to foster a supportive and inclusive community for all.

Description: The ceremony encouraged social identification of the Project Raah 2024-’25. The a programme of skill development for the transgendered students was shed light upon. The supporting members were respectfully introduced to the team of Raah along with the students with motivation and dedication.

Transgender Identity Card (Malvani)

Description: Team RAAH took the initiative of creating awareness for the transgender identity card for the community. The team along with resources people form triveni samaj went door to door and informed the community about the benefits of creating the identity card and provided them with necessary information to create one.

Harmony Hub, The Lalit – Mumbai

Description: The event, led by Ms. Nishta Nishant and featuring Ms. Rani KoHEnur, was a beacon of diversity and empowerment. Through heartfelt personal stories, attendees gained insight into the transformative power of acceptance, notably fostered by organizations like the Sweekar Group of Parents and the Yana Foundation. Team RAAH was able to gain a deeper understanding of inclusion and a robust network of allies. This celebration of diversity and unity marked a significant step towards positive change and collective impact.

Mumbai Queer Pride Parade at August Kranti Maidan

Description: The Pride Parade held in Mumbai Central on February 3rd, 2024, was a vibrant celebration of the LGBTQ+ community's ongoing struggles and triumphs. Amidst a sea of rainbow flags, banners, and enthusiastic chants, participants expressed themselves freely with flamboyant attire and stunning makeup. The event drew support from individuals of all backgrounds, ages, and orientations, coming together to advocate for equality, freedom, and love. Notably, organizations like ‘Sweekar The Rainbow Parents’; offered vital support to the LGBTQ+ community, underscoring the event’s inclusive spirit. The recitation of the Indian Constitution further highlighted the commitment to equal rights and protection for all citizens, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Webinar on Breaking Barriers: Transgender persons participation in India’s electoral landscape by Ms. Madhumita Gomathinayaga 

Description: The webinar, moderated by Ms. Krithika Ramasethu, featured Ms. Madhumitha Gomathinayagam, India’s first transgender HR professional. They discussed challenges faced by the transgender community in acquiring voter IDs and participating in elections, emphasizing the need for inclusive electoral processes and addressing societal barriers. Ms. Krithika underscored facilitating certificate changes for transgender individuals and advocating for their rights. Ms. Madhumitha highlighted the significance of each vote, sharing personal voting experiences over 20 years. They urged citizens to view elections as a festival, actively engage in the democratic process for societal change, and called for increased representation of the transgender community in politics.

Visit to Garima Greh in collaboration with SFC Foundation

Description: The visit was intended to provide the Garima Greh residents with some kitchen appliances. Volunteers from SFC Foundation also accompanied the team and got to meet the residents and understand their struggles and needs. The residents were made aware of the work of SFC Foundation and how they would like to collaborate with Garima Greh in the near future. An Art Therapy workshop was conducted by the SFC volunteers where they would teach the residents methods to release their emotions in a constructive manner.

Description: In this subsequent distribution drive, a group of people arrived from the transgender community and were distributed. Dr. Rajeshree Trivedi (Principal, Maniben Nanavati Women’s College) and Dr. Swati Partani (HOD, Child Development, MNWC) greeted all those present and distributed hygiene kits to the representatives.

Description:

The event was coordinated by Adv. Gauri Chhabria (President, Women’s Graduate Union), Dr. Rajeshree Trivedi (Principal, Maniben Nanavati Women’s College) and Dr. Swati Partani (HOD, Child Development, MNWC). The items for the ration kits were bought from those whose business has been suffering a loss in the pandemic. Hence, this event has helped both the providers and the receivers. The ration kits were then distributed among the transgender persons.

ECLIPSING GENDER : Trans-forming Gender Norms [Conducted Online via Zoom Meetings]

Description: This event had the aims to sensitize parents about gender and their understanding of the transgender community, to inform how parents can be effective allies to the community, to provide parents with ways to support their children in the journey to understanding themselves, to share resources which parents could visit to learn more about transgender youth and what steps they could take if they had a child who is transgender and to emphasise the importance of mental health and how LGBTQ+ affirmative counsellors can help in this journey for both parents and children.

KAVACH CLOTHES DISTRIBUTION DRIVE [Conducted in Kapaswadi, Kalina East, Mumbai]

Description: A clothes distribution drive was conducted to provide clothing to members of the transgender community during the lockdown as RAAH in collaboration with Rotaract Club of Andheri, Ekta Foundation (Donation Partner) and Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust (Distribution Partner). A total of 60 members of the transgender community were provided clothes.

Description: On the occasion of 73rd Independence day members of the LGBTQIA+ community were invited to speak and convey what freedom and independence means to them. This was an online event, we had in our midst the community members who spoke for 1 minute or less what freedom means to them.

PROJECT POSHAN [Conducted across Mumbai and Online]

Description: This project was initiated to provide nutritional packets to HIV positive patients of the transgender community. A total of 62 members of the transgender community afflicted by HIV received such a pack. This was done with help from volunteers from Humsafar Trust – Aarohi and Santosh.

LOCKDOWN: THINK. GROW. FLY (Competition) [Conducted Online via Forms, Instagram]

Description: A competition conducted by RAAH over the course of three days with the topic: Parents- My H2O. This event had 3 events namely; Spreading positivity- Make a meme competition, Strength of colours- Painting Competition, Power of word- Write a quote competition. The turnout was 44 individuals registered themselves from different states and 21 individuals sent their entries via email to the RAAH team.

Block Printing – Skill Development Program Activity [Conducted On The Campus Of Maniben Nanavati Women’s College]

Description: The 1st Skill Development Programme Conducted By Raah Developing Skills Of Block Printing And Conducted By The Teacher/Professor Of B.Design From Maniben Nanavati Women’s College. It Was Attended By Two Individuals From The Transgender Community. The Members Of The Transgender Community Left With Proper Knowledge In The Craft Of Block Printing And The Efforts Were a Success.
